Customer Review: Hard to review because HDD/DVD recorder needs repair.
I had watched a total of three DVDs using the HDD/DVD recorder when the loading drawer became stuck (as signiifed by a “BLOCKED” message on the unit’s screen). I had not yet tried to record a DVD. I actually thought that the “BLOCKED” message was because I was trying to record something from the HDD to a DVD. I’m still not sure if this can be done.

Customer Review: Excellent Product…Excellent Service
I am very happy to recommend the Philips MCD708. It provides an excellent sound, it is very versatile and also very attractive. I will say that the first one I received was defective. The DVD player had a defective lens so after calling Phillips and not getting much help I called J&R Electronics and right away they designed a plan for me that allowed me to keep the player while I waited for a new one to arrive. Once it arrived I placed the defective unit in the box and mailed it back to them. J & R Electronics was great and now I enjoy a fully functioning stereo system for my living room.

I bought this unit for use as a stereo system for my bookshelf. The system fits perfectly on a shelf with easy setup. The sound is crisp and clear. The rosewood speakers look great on my shelf and the system as a whole gives the room a slight look of class. I have played multiple types of media on it including DVD and CD with multiple types of file formats (WMA, MP3, etc); all have worked superbly. The remote control is comprehensive, but not too complex. Shortcomings include: the LCD screen does not display the song titles when playing a CD, the system does not remember your position on a CD when shut off, and there are no ports for USB or memory cards (it does have 2 RCA aux plug-ins). Although I have not explored the video qaulity of this system is works wonderfully as a bookshelf stereo. For the price, I would recommend this product to anyone.

It is smaller thanthe former cluttery Stereo System and also plays DVDs with a booming sound. The price was right, the size was right, the sound was very decent and my teenager though it was an awesome Christmas gift.
Customer Review: Skips all audio cd’s as well
In addition to the above reviews, mine skips every audio CD I throw at it, including MP3 cds. So despite the box and description stating that it will play mp3 and wma cd, and cd-r/w’s IT WON’T.

Customer Review: Love one control
This is a great improvement over the TSU3000 which gave up the ghost (and has since come back). Programming is still a major project and finding codes for some devices impossible, but the results are worth the effort. This is not for the novice though. I had to start with professional services to do the initial programming and have done my own since, but am probably still missing some of the “cool” stuff. I haven’t done any “pretty” layouts, just the basic buttons, but they work. Support has also been pretty good. They haven’t had some answers I had to figure out myself, but they are available with reasonable wait times.
Customer Review: Very nice remote
I really like this remote. Since it is totally programmable, I can make it do whatever I can think of. The programming software is very simple to use once you figure it out. Programming is time consuming and tedious, but once it’s done this remote works great. I did not use any preset functions, I only used the learning functions from my other remotes. The best part is that the program saves your configuration, is easy to modify, and should something bad happen, no reprogramming will be needed.

Customer Review: Really good sound good for the price…
Hey, it’s got a powered/active subwoofer, and some stylish looking speakers. The only trick is that the controls for the subwoofer are not external. They are set thru the DVD menu, but the settings remain constant, whether watching TV, a DVD or the radio. Once I was able to get the bass turned up, the sound was very impressive, especially considering the price. I get a lot of compliments on the look of the speakers, and the subwoofer is a really good size.

I replaced my clunky, five speaker home theatre with this. It has worked flawlessly. I have it hooked up to my Sharp Aquos and the quality couldn’t be better and it dosent take over my living room. Big equipment is like a big truck. It says there is something lacking in the owner. This is appropriate technology, does what it sets out to do and does it well.
