The HK AVR 354 has a ton of bugs, the new firmware update helps, but doesn’t solve all. First the USB to Serial cable from radio shack ( gigawire) works really well. Don’t try any others, save yourself some time and just run to RadioShack and get theirs. Make sure you do the firmware update first because one of the PROBLEMS is an intermittent POP that is sometimes intense and BLEW one of my tweeters on my rear left surround. Second, (THIS IS NOT LISTED IN THE FIRMWARE INSTRUCTIONS) DO NOT USE A LAPTOP TO DO THE UPDATE. TECH SUPPORT TOLD ME THAT MOST LAPTOPS DO NOT HAVE STRONG ENOUGH USB OUTPUTS TO DO THE UPDATE, TAKE YOUR RECEIVER TO YOUR DESKTOP AND DO IT THERE. IF I HAD KNOWN THIS WOULD HAVE SAVED A BUNCH OF TIME. TECH SUPPORT INFORMED ME THAT THE FACT THAT LAPTOPS SHOULD NOT BE USED SHOULD BE IN THE INSTRUCTIONS BUT THEY HAVE NOT GOT AROUND TO IT YET. Good thing is that do to the TONS of problems that everyone in Tech Support is very knowledgeable about the avr 354. Next problem is that Video is downgraded through this receiver. Blu Ray to TV is better than through the receiver. Although the picture is better than the other receivers I tried. This will be fixed with future updates. The firmware update AFW v0.95.1.1 fixes the problem with poor color gradation on blacks so if you push avr, 1,2,3,4,ok on your receiver and AFW v0.95.1.1 does not show on the front of your receiver then you need this update. Now audio performance, since the update, FLAWLESS, Sounds amazing, I compared to Onkyo, 606,806- Denon and Pioneer in the same price range, IN MY HOME on the same speakers and the 354 was the best. 2 channel stereo is killer on the 354. Extra power over the 354 is a big plus.

Yamaha RX-V665BL 630 Watt 7-Channel Home Theater Receiver Yamaha RX-V665 is fully compatible with HD audio and video. It features HD audio decoding, HDMI (4 in/1 out), 1080p video upscaling. Pure Direct, YPAO, Cinema DSP 3D and custom installation features. Customer Review: Great receiver I’ve had this now for one month and have been very pleased. It has 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs so I was able to easily connect my Direct TV DVR, Xbox 360, Panasonic Blu-Ray player and Panasonic DVD/VHS recorder. I’m using it as a preamp so I’m not using the built in amps. I like the HDMI pass through feature so I can watch normal TV with the receiver and sound system turned off and just use the normal TV speakers. You don’t really need 7.1 surround sound for watching the news. The sound quality is really super. Very clear and detailed. I’ve been very pleased with my purchase. Only con is the remote is hard to read and confusing. Customer Review: What was Yamaha thinking about Wii owners? This receiver is almost identical to the 565 which I just purchased. There are two model numbers for the 565 AV Receiver as disclosed on CNET. One model number is the Yamaha RX-V565BL 630 Watt 7-Channel Home Theater Receiver, the other is the Yamaha HTR-6250BL 630 Watt 7-Channel Home Theater Receiver, which I purchased. At various times, the prices of the two vary on Amazon, so I just went with the cheaper one. I coupled the receiver with the Energy Take Classic 5.1 and was able to get two satellites on Ebay to complete a 7.1 speaker system. To round out the system I have the Mitsubishi DLP 73″. I also have the PS3, xbox360 and Wii hooked up.

Monster Cable MP HT800 Home Theater PowerCenter The fact is, analog audio equipment is sensitive to a different type of noise than video, just as video is sensitive to a different type of noise than digital, and so on. In the past, manufacturers have used filters to combat the problem of noise introduced via power sources. Unfortunately, the filters were not optimized to attenuate at the different frequencies that are unique to digital, analog audio, and video realms. Products that managed to deliver truly cleaner AC power were thousands of dollars in price, out of reach for most people. Enter Head Monster Noel Lee. An uncompromising audiophile, Lee joined forces with Richard Marsh, the world s foremost expert on AC power, to develop affordable solutions to AC power problems. The result? Monster Clean Power.

I picked this particular model as I wanted to have two independent zones. In Zone 1, I have my family room (TV + surround system). In Zone 2, I have stereo speakers to all the bedrooms. My kids can watch a cartoon in the family room, and I can listen to music in the other rooms.

Panasonic SC-PT660 5 DVD Home Theater System One of the exceptionally fine aspects of HDTV is that most programs are broadcast with a 5.1 channel surround soundtrack. Panasonic SC-PT660 is an easy way to enjoy it. With the Wireless Kit for Rear Speakers (SH-FX67 sold separately), no cables mean no clutter. You can also expand your music listening into three additional rooms with the wireless multi-room speaker kit (SH-FX85 sold separately). The front pair and center speakers are simply wired to the receiver that also has a DVD changer and an AM/FM radio. With 1000 watts of RMS power, home-theater is fully realized. Sit back and enjoy.
The built-in Universal Dock for iPod gives you a great new way to enjoy music and (composite) video. Just slip your iPod into the cradle and enjoy. The dock charges your iPod, allows you to use the home theater remote to control the iPod, has on-screen audio menus, and also plays back iPod video. Got a Panasonic Viera TV? VIERA Link displays a menu on the TV screen, making it easier to operate your connected home theater system. Whatever HDTV you own, it’s time to upgrade your sound and the Panasonic SC-PT660 is the best way to start it up. Rear Wireless Ready with the purchase of a SH-FX67 Wireless Speaker Kit Surround Enhancer Magnetically Shielded Speakers Inputs - 1 optical digital audio, 1 auxiliary input / Outputs - 1 component video, 1 video, HDMI and 1 headphone jack Customer Review: Custom speaker connections and pre-wired I use the Panny SC-PT660 in my family room. Good features, sound, and easy to setup. Movies, TV and SAT radio for family - not heavy duty use. Works great with my Panny Viera Plasma. One issue, I failed to notice that the speakers have custome “clip-in” connections to the receiver and the speakers are “pre-wired”. My family room is pre-wired with standard speaker wires run behind the walls and ceiling. Had to splice the Panny wires for the rear surround sound speakers. I expected the speakers to accept the bare ends of the pre-run speaker wires. Customer Review: The system ate my 5 DvDs I bought the Panasonic SC-PT660 5 DVD Home Theater System in Jan 2009. The wires for the surround speakers were too short. The woofer speaker is not finished on the left side. The instructions for operating the system were vague and complicated at the same time. The loading cassette which is built in the system and hold one to five dvds or cd all open at the same time. If you’re not using this set in a well-lit place you can have loading problems. For instance if you need to exchange a dvd in tray # 3, the cassette opens trays # 3, 4, 5, making the trays not needed for changing a single dvd or cd exchange, open and close needlessly. This will surely wear this mechanism out sooner.

High Definition (1080p) Up-Conversion Rear Wireless Ready HDMI Digital Output, Component Out, Composite Out, Video Out, Optical Digital Inputs, Audio Inputs Customer Review: REally like this player but having a problem with the setup I purchased this unit to complement our new 42 inch Panasonic HD TV. It displays Blu Ray Discs and other formats beautifully. The surround sound complements both the movies and the TV sound. However, I cannot get the TV to recognize the Blu Ray setup using the HDMI cable port. The TV recognizes the composite cable and the component cable but not the HDMI. I’ve spend hours pouring over the directions trying different setups with no success. The manual is very scanty, and not user friendly. IN addition, the Viera Link is really very useless. Any ideas as to why I cant get the HDMI cable connection to work ? Otherwise we are very happy with this unit. Customer Review: Home theater system Sounds great for music and movies. Blue Ray player loads very fast and has great picture. Instruction is not very good but everything is pretty automatic and you don’t need much instruction to get it to work. Love the ipod hookup. If you are on a budget you can’t go wrong with this system.
