Onkyo TX-SR506 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) In the case of Onkyo A/V receivers, ?entry level? means a whole lot more than just affordability and standard functionality. You won’t find a better example than the TX-SR506, which also offers high-definition media capability and advanced sound correction technologies. With an HDMI platform handling 1080p video from three sources, the TX-SR506 brings polish and peak performance to high-definition displays and sources. Legendary Onkyo amplification drive and power set the foundation for delivering bass crunch and vocal clarity. The TX-SR506 uses Audyssey 2EQ to counter distortion created by walls, furniture and other objects. This technology detects speaker distance, and then sets levels, delays, and crossovers, while also measuring room acoustics and you get to enjoy a sweeping soundstage even at low volumes. Easily holding its own among higher-priced A/V receivers, the TX-SR506 adds serious impetus to entry-level home theater. I found the quality to be very good and the instruction manual easy to follow. I did use the enclosed mic and let the receiver auto set-up do all the calculations for distance, level, speaker size and frequency. My system has five speakers and a sub and was done in around 15 minutes. I followed up with my radio shack sound level meter and all speaker levels were very close. There are several sound settings for music and movies. I found pro-logic II to do very well with music and the digital auto setting for my dvd’s. Overall a very good sounding receiver that is easy for the average consumer to operate. Philips AmbiSound Home Theater Sound Bar with Integrated 1080p-Upscaling DVD/MP3 Player, HTS8100/37 Sometimes the quest for home surround sound is as ignominious as seeking the holy grail. Where do you place all those speakers? Do you have to reshape the room? Philips engineers have tackled that problem. They’ve managed to take the output from 5 distinct channel amplifiers and placed them in a single speaker called a Soundbar. Within the soundbar, speakers are angled to provide a realistic audio environment that literally emulates sound as if it’s coming from all sides. It’s 5.1 surround without the mess! In addition to the latest audio technology, the Ambisound system is only five inches thick and can be easily mounted onto a wall underneath an existing Flat-TV. The simple, yet elegant design enhances the d cor of any home theater space, regardless of the room layout or design. The center console is designed to be mounted on a wall or resting on a stand. For maximum audio quality and clarity, the Ambisound system features a 3-band equalizer and DoubleBASS deep bass performance, creating a smooth cross over between sounds. The speakers feature soft dome tweeters for increased clarity and clear voice performance and are designed for maximum efficiency for full midrange performance. Additionally, users will enjoy the Smart Surround feature, which automatically ensures correct surround sound settings whether a movie or music is playing. Though not exactly 5.1 channel sound, The HTS8100 uses a host of technologies including array processing, precise driver positioning and psycho-acoustic innovation to achieve the full surround sound performance that is 5.1 channel compatible. Auxiliary input ports Subwoofer Only five-inches thick, the Ambisound SoundBar provides a stylish system with amplifier and a DVD player all in a single sophisticated design Philips advanced Sonowave surround SonoWave surround sound technology is compatible with all 5.1 channel surround-sound sources, such as DVDs, SACDs and s Customer Review: This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made, this soundbar sucks! I bought this soundbar about a year ago and I deeply regret buying it and I’m in the process of getting rid of it, I have nothing good to say about this machine, I mean, picture quality is good and sound is ok, but this thing will freeze 3 out of 10 times and I don’t mean the DVD, NO!, I mean the whole machine will get stuck when I turn it on or when I’m trying to open the console to insert a DVD and I have to unplug it and plug it again so it will reset, I mean, WTF!!!!????, this was a $500 machine when I bought it and it works like a $10 piece of crap, if you want my advise, DO NOT BUY IT!, it may be that I have a lemon, but in all honesty, are you willing to take the risk? Customer Review: Great idea, but limited options with multiple inputs I purchased this system at a retail store at about the same price, after tax, as Amazon is offering it. The only reason I didn’t buy it on Amazon was due to the reviews I read here first, but I wanted to see if I could make the system work. My primary concern wasn’t true “surround sound,” as I knew this would be a compromise. However, as one review I read noted, the only digital hookup on the Philips is coaxial, not optical. This was a problem for me, as I have Direct TV and a PS3 that I use a Blue-Ray DVD player. However, I was willing to look at other outputs for my PlayStation 3. While I was able hook up the Direct TV, there was not optical output for the Sony PlayStation 3. This was an issue, because if you do not use an HDMI cable and optical sound from the PlayStation 3, you must use the adapter cable out of the PS3, which degrades the signal of the Sony’s Blue-Ray player. In my opinion, the Philips is a good idea, but not well executed. It has only one coaxial output and that wasn’t even compatible with both my components. If you are only running one component this system may be great for those applications.

Bose 161 Speaker System (Black) - ideal for stereo or home theater use A versatile choice for both listening to music and appreciating the sonic splendor of big-budget blockbusters, the Bose 161 multipurpose speaker system offers topnotch sound in an elegant package. Unlike conventional speakers, which radiate sound in a single direction, these speakers use Bose’s Articulated Array and Stereo Everywhere technologies to project sound throughout the entire room, so listeners in the corner can appreciate the same subtleties as those in the middle. In addition, the proprietary Twiddler drivers (two 2.5-inch drivers in each enclosure) make the speakers sound much larger than they actually are. The end result is a consistently impressive sound field that simulates the cinema experience. Meanwhile, the speakers’ actual size–they measure 11 inches wide by 4.12 inches tall–belies their big sound, so you can store them easily in compact locations, such as small dorm rooms or crowded offices. They even come with mounting brackets for installing on a wall or ceiling. The speakers’ sleek black housing also blends into practically any d cor.
Additional features include magnetic shielding, which protects your TV from video interference, and automatic overdrive protection. The speakers are computer tested for quality and reliability and carry a five-year warranty from Bose.
